PROJECTS (SELECTED)

2018 - 2020:

THE WITCH’S CAULDRON (work in progress) (writer, director, editor)
Performance based feature-length film

A performance based feature length film that aims to explore the repetitive pattern of violence in the Balkans. Audience which conisted out of different ethnic and religious groups from the Balkans was invited to sit in a circle around an MMA fighting cage in which a single narator told six most significant events in the history of the Balkans. After each story a real mma fight was orchestrated by fighters who were also part of different ethnic and religious groups. Each ethnic group in the audience cheered for theitr own, and each story was welcomed by some and caused rage in others. My intention was to re-enact the trauma I myself expericed as a child during the civil war in Yugoslavia and by doing so start the process of repair.

2019 - 2020:

SLAVISH GAMES (work in progress)
Single - channel video installation, performance documentation, and sculpture

Single-channel video installation, performance documenation, and sculpture. Inspired by a story told to me by a former inmate from a priosn in Saint Petersburg. For this performance a razor blade was cast in 14K gold and was exchanged from mouth to mouth between myself and another, leaving traces of blood as evidence of the ritual.

2014 - 2019:

PORTRIAT OF THE DEITY (RITUAL SUPPLICATION)
Series of 12 Photographic triptychs, single - channel video installation, performance documentation, and sculpture

In 2014 when my mother passed away, I picked the twelve most significant people from different stages of my life (with whom I was either on good or bad terms) and performed a ritual supplication. The performance is inspired by the punishment of being made to kneel on dry corn kernels which I experienced as a child in the former Yugoslavia.

2014 - 2020:

OGNJENA MARIJA (Fiery Mary) (work in progress) (writer, director, editor ) (work in progress)
Feature length documenatry film

Filmed in the last 14 days of Mila Jankic life. A mother tells her life story to her son and filmmaker Branislav Jankic.

2019:

FIORI DELLA MIA VITA (Flowers of my life) (writer, director, editor )
Performance based feature-lenght film and book

A performance based feature length experimental film (54 min). Fiori Della Mia Vita (Flowers of my Life) is a memorial to lost love which is based on the true love story of my mentor Gianpaolo Barbieri and his partner Evar who died a quarter of a century ago.

2019 - 2020:

MAGDALENA’S BASIN ( FETISH II) (work in progress)
Two - channel video installation, performance documentation, and sculpture

Magdalena’s Basin (Fetish II) reveals the potentiality of the fetish; the complexities of such processes of subordination and domination of the individual through the control and experience of fetish are explored. Through a two-channel video installation, performance documentation, and sculpture, Magdalena’s Basin follows the process of making an object of fetish for an individual’s needs and wants—using the basin to drink milk from, urinate in it and lick it clean afterwards. By creating a bronze-cast sculpture of the basin, the object is memorialized as an ecstatic transcendence of the fetishized object, performance, and individual experience*.

2018:

MILA
Performance, performance documentation, and sculpture

On June 20, 2018, I invited women most of who are mothers and are currently battling drug and alcohol addiction at the Santa Maria Rehab Center in Houston, TX to participate in a ritual in which they would carve their name or their child's name onto a diamond shaped wooden table using cast bronze nails. 189 women participated in the ritual and brought so my sculpture titled Mila (named after my mother, a former alcoholic) to completion. The sculpture was donated to the Santa Maria Rehab Center and the carving ritual is ongoing. Since the first performance in June, 2018 more than 700 names are carved onto the surface of the table.

2018:

THE ASCENT OF KEVIN (FETISH I)
Three- channel video installation, performance documentation, and sculpture

The Ascent of Kevin (FETISH I) reveals the potentiality of the fetish; the complexities of such processes of subordination and domination of the individual through the control and experience of fetish are explored. Through a three-channel video installation, performance documentation, and sculpture, The Ascent of Kevin follows the process of making an object of fetish for an individual’s needs and wants—tracking the shoes through dirt, snow, animal feces, and other various substances—and the rewarding outcome of restoring the original condition of the shoes through the individual’s intensely devotional process of licking the shoes clean of their impurities. By creating a bronze-cast sculpture of the shoes and displaying it within a case, the shoes are memorialized as an ecstatic transcendence of the fetishized object, performance, and individual experience*.

THE BIRTHDAY RITUAL
7 day performance documentation and 7 photographic images

In November 2013 I rented an isolated cottage in the woods in Redfield, New York where I purified my body through strict fasting for 6 days. During that time I performed a set of physical and spiritual acts which ranged from several hours on the first day till just minutes on the last day due to my body's weakness. I completed the ritual on the seventh day, my birthday the December 1st.

2012:

JESEN (FALL) (writer, director)
Short film (12:51 minutes)

Jesen is my first short film and one of my first attempts to incorporate family stories, Eastern European folk tales and my own childhood memories and nostalgia for my homeland - Yugoslavia. Jesen which translates to Fall or Autumn portrays a withdrawn man who lives his life through the sounds of a neighbor that filter through his apartment wall. His delusions of love and intimacy lead him to desperation as his reality of becomes challenged by another.
